DNV-approved Oil Spill Recovery Vessel

Skimmer Technology from Norway has developed the first oil spill recovery vessel approved by an international classification bureau (DNV) for recovery, storage and transport of oil. The approval is based on 10 years of experience from several oil recovery operations, and the design of OP Skimmer Vessels delivered to Petrobras, The Royal Norwegian Navy and Statoil.

The new design is explosion-safe, which makes it ideal for operation in hazardous zones such as refinery and crude oil terminals. The development of the new design has been supported by Innovation Norway.

The OP Skimmer Vessel has several times shown its efficiency in real incidents. During the Green Ålesund accident in Norway, it recovered ten tonnes of oil within only three minutes, despite the fact that the heavy fuel oil was mixed with debris.

The OP Skimmer Vessel is an oil spill recovery vessel for coastline and shallow-water operations. The vessel contains all the equipment that two people need to collect up to 17 tonnes of oil without further assistance. The patented skimmer technology has proven its high-capacity and reliability during several occurrences, collecting up to 5 tonnes of oil mixed with debris in one minute. Booms of all kinds are used to lead the oil to the skimmer. In operation, the vessel aligns with natural forces (waves and currents) to collect the oil. The oil skimmer has proven its efficiency on oil of all viscosities.
